A few things we’re great at

Evaluate:

Product design concept evaluation for commercial feasibility.

WHY.? WHAT.? WHO.? HOW.?

Detail Design & CAD:

3D product design development & component CAD.
During this stage the design takes on its final form and operation. This is key to the product development process.

Cross Discipline Product Design:

Product design development is not a linear development path. We undertake several activities at once and involve different teams at the same time. It is the detail design stage where we see the most cross over in design disciplines.

Industrial design consultancy:

Our approach to industrial design consultancy involves developing an idea or concept to ensure that every aspect has been considered and planned before production. As an industrial design specialist company, we believe that industrial design goes further than how a product will look.

Putting the User First:

During our design phase, we make it a priority to identify the end users of a product. We understand that it is not just a product’s target market that will interact with it, but also external teams such as marketing, installation, and servicing. We never compromise the user experience due to challenging manufacturing processes or business obstacles. Instead, our team will continue to innovate and research until a solution is found.

Product design engineering:

Making a one off prototype is very different to a production run. Throughout the design development phase we are always considering materials, their manufacturing processes and assembly. Often we work as a wider team integrating any electronics, mechanics or software into a production ready handover package.

Sustainable Industrial design:

Our design process involves a sustainability review at every stage from idea to production. We believe that sustainable design considerations should be given equal relevance to other key elements such as form and function. By monitoring every material, process, source, and delivery method, we ensure that a product’s environmental damage is minimal.

Mechanical engineering, FEA, and FMEA:

We evaluate the best process to produce each part and often carry out FEA – Finite Element Analysis, ensuring we can optimise the strength of the component, and that it will absorb stress and flex in the desired way.

We may also use FMEA – Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, to analyse risk so as we can take action and reduce the possibility of failure, and to ensure that if it were to fail, it would do so safely.

Engineering drawings:

During the detail design and development stage we are working with a selection of our manufacturers and supplier, we can tune the design and cost to their processes. This helps us produce the engineering hand over package in the format that they require.

Design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA):

we will consider  the materials and the design for manufacture and design for assembly, (DFM and DFA). It is the next stage – production engineering, that we will look at each component part and design it so as it can be manufactured as efficiently as possible. Different components require different manufacturing processes, metal parts are often fabricated, die cast or extruded, plastic parts are moulded, formed or extruded.

Prototype & Proof Of Concept:

During the product design development cycle we will make several prototypes at every stage. Prototypes range from very rough block models that show size and shape to accurate, fully representative models. Over the years we have made a wide variety of products from small hand-held items which we can do in house with our own 3D printing, through to complex mechanics in large scale machines, which we lean on the expertise of our very diverse network of professional prototyping services.

Product concept design:

Concept generation is one of the most exciting activities of designing as it is a very creative and interactive process. Once the brief is fully evaluated, we get together as a team and focus on “what is the unique selling feature and who is the target market?” . This allows us to create as many different solutions as possible without inhibiting our ideas with cost or manufacturing constraints.

Design thinking & User Centered Design:

Our clients are long term partners, so we are not only looking to solve the immediate brief but look ahead and applying design thinking to their business and future product development plans..

Safety Testing:

Testing to national & international standards, certification.

Product production:

Planning for quality, consistency & cost for achieving high quality products off the production line

Product photography:

Product photography can happen at different stages of the design process. We use our network of talented photographers to produce photos for a number of reasons. The aim is to accurately and attractively represent the product and give the consumer a glimpse into how their life might be better with your product.

User-centred design:

User or human-centred design, is the practice of designing a product or experience to an individual.

Inspiration,

Ideation,

Implementation.

Concept optimisation:

Sometimes our chosen concepts move out to become future projects as they will need R and D or future planning, but the desired result is delivered in a concept pack. This is a pack of illustrations and often 3D block models which illustrates what the final product will look like, how it will function, and why it is unique.
